The Florida Panhandle custom blind cornerstone
What custom blinds are and how to pick them.
Blinds are horizontal or vertical slat window treatments that tilt for light control and lift for view. Custom blinds are sized to your exact opening, cut to length in the factory, finished to your trim. The category covers five distinct products: faux wood, real wood, aluminum, vertical, and mini or micro. Each has a use case on the Florida Panhandle and each has a wrong-place application. The goal of the in-home consult is to put the right product in each room.
The most-searched questions are: how much do custom blinds cost in Florida, what is the difference between faux wood and real wood, what slat width should I use, are blinds motorized, are blinds OK in coastal humidity, do they come cordless. We cover each below. Short version: $14 to $35 per square foot installed depending on material and lift; faux wood is humidity-stable and real wood bows in baths, so we default to faux wood; 2 inch slats are the residential default; yes roller and cellular shades motorize cleanly with Lutron and Somfy; faux wood handles coast and real wood does not; yes cordless is available and we recommend it for homes with kids or pets.
We have installed custom blinds on the Panhandle since 1996. Hunter Douglas, Norman, and Graber are our core partners. Most installs finish in a single day once material is in our warehouse. Lead time 2 to 4 weeks from consult.
Blind types by use case
The five blind products we install.
2" Faux Wood Blinds
PVC or polystyrene composite engineered to look like real wood. Humidity-stable. Right for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, and any coastal-side room. Paints and stains true to grain. Hunter Douglas EverWood, Norman Faux Wood, Graber Lake Forest are our defaults. $14 to $20 per square foot installed.
Real Wood Blinds
Basswood or red oak. The warm, traditional look. Right for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms in low-humidity inland zones. Will bow in a Pensacola bathroom inside 3 years; we will not bid them there. $18 to $26 per square foot installed.
Aluminum Mini Blinds (1")
1 inch aluminum slats for tight reveal depths and historic Florida Cracker upper sashes. Light, inexpensive, easy to clean. The right call for transoms and budget-tier rental outfit. See our mini and micro blinds page. $10 to $16 per square foot.
Vertical Blinds
The right product for sliding-glass doors and tall slim windows. Wand control or motorized. Fabric, vinyl, and faux wood vertical lines. See our vertical blinds page. $16 to $28 per square foot installed.
Motorized Roller and Cellular
Not technically Venetian blinds, but the most common blind-adjacent motorized product. Lutron RA3 or Somfy motors. See our motorization page. $26 to $35 per square foot installed including motor and remote.
Cordless lift
The modern safety standard. Available across faux wood, real wood, cellular, and roller lines. Slightly higher cost than corded. Standard spec for any home with kids or pets.
