The vertical blind cornerstone
When vertical blinds are the right answer.
Almost every Florida Panhandle home has a sliding-glass door out to a screened patio, a covered porch, or a lanai. Some have two or three. Sliding-glass doors are the worst possible application for horizontal blinds: the slat is too long, the lift cord too risky, the visual stack too clumsy when you slide the door. Vertical blinds are designed exactly for that opening. They run on a head track, the vanes pivot for light control, the panel parts in the middle or to one side when the door opens. With wand control they are kid-safe, dog-safe, and easy to live with for decades. We have spec'd vertical blinds on every slider from Pensacola to Panama City Beach to Mobile and the Eastern Shore since 1996.

Vane materials and use cases
The vertical blind options.
Vinyl vane (the workhorse)
Humidity-stable, easy to clean, lowest cost. The default for sliding-glass doors throughout the Panhandle. Solid colors and a small number of patterns. Excellent for rental units and primary-residence patios.
Fabric vane
Softer look, more color and texture options, slightly higher cost. The right call when the design intent extends from the room's drapery or fabric palette to the slider. Performance polyester fabrics handle Panhandle humidity.
Faux wood vane
Mimics horizontal 2 inch faux wood blinds for design continuity. Right when the room has faux wood blinds on the windows and you want the slider to read as the same product family.
Wand control (the standard)
Hand-operated wand replaces string pull. Kid-safe, dog-safe, no cord tangling in summer humidity. We do not bid string-pull on residential installs.
Motorized track
Somfy or Lutron motor opens and closes the panel from a wall switch, remote, app, or voice. Excellent for tall slider applications where wand reach is awkward, and for second-home and rental units where remote control matters.
Split stack vs one-way stack
Split stack parts in the middle when the door opens; one-way stack collects all vanes to one side. We size the stack to the door swing direction. Standard practice for us.
What vertical blinds cost
Honest pricing.
Vinyl vane $16 to $20. Fabric vane $20 to $26. Faux wood vane $24 to $28. Motorized adds $200 to $400 per opening. A typical 8-foot sliding-glass door runs $400 to $750 installed.
