Frequently asked questions

Real answers from a 30-year Gulf Coast installer. Call 850-805-4404 for anything not covered here.

What does it cost to put plantation shutters on a typical Gulf Coast home?

Custom plantation shutters in Pensacola, Destin, and the Florida Panhandle typically run between $25 and $55 per square foot installed. Basswood is at the higher end and poly shutters at the lower end. Pricing depends on louver size (2.5", 3.5", or 4.5"), tilt-rod style, finish, and total square footage. We provide a fixed quote during a free in-home consultation.

Should I choose basswood or poly plantation shutters in Florida?

Poly (faux wood) plantation shutters are usually the right choice for the Gulf Coast. They will not warp, yellow, or peel in the salt air and humidity. Real basswood looks slightly more refined up close but does not hold up the same way in coastal homes. We recommend poly for any room that gets bathroom, kitchen, or sun exposure.

How long do plantation shutters take from order to install?

Custom plantation shutters typically take 4 to 6 weeks from measurement to installation. Most of that time is in the manufacturing -- we measure, you approve, and the shutters are made to order. Installation itself is usually one day for a whole house.

Do plantation shutters add value to a home?

Yes. Plantation shutters are considered a permanent fixture in most real-estate markets and stay with the home at sale. Realtors on the Emerald Coast routinely cite shutters as a feature that helps homes show better and sell faster. They also reduce cooling costs because the louvers block direct Florida sun.

Are plantation shutters child-safe?

Yes. Plantation shutters are corded and chain-free, which makes them one of the safest window treatments for homes with children or pets. There are no dangling pull strings.

Can plantation shutters be installed on arched or palladium windows?

Yes. We custom-fit shutters to arches, palladiums, half-rounds, and other specialty shapes. The louvers can either follow the arch or stay rectangular -- both options look great depending on your trim.
